SAO Fall Virtual CE Program
The Fall Virtual dates have been released and registration is now open! Sessions are $25 each plus GST ($26.25). Please send payment to admin@saosk.ca. Exceptions to this are the HIPA, SAO Billing Q&A and Reconciliation these are free to attend. Reminder: All virtual sessions are free for those who attended the spring 2024 SAO conference in Regina, as they were included in the package and registration fee. Product talks are optional to attend and do not count towards continuing education hours.

The mucosal health of the ocular surface is responsible for defending the tissues from microbiological and antigenic challenges. This session will cover recent changes to the Health Information Protection Act, and privacy topics relevant to the practice of optometry including record retention and destruction, audit requirements, employee safeguards, agreements with third party providers and best practices with substitute decision-makers. This session is delivered by McKercher LLP.
We highly recommend members attend this session. Member response to the HIPA changes was identified as a deficiency on the 2024 QAA’s. There were several changes made to HIPA requirements in 2023 and it is your responsibility to be aware of these changes and to implement the appropriate steps to comply.
