Saskatchewan Optometrist Jurisprudence Exams

All applicants are required to attend an orientation session and successfully pass the SAO Jurisprudence Examination.

Due to reduced travel and other challenges resulting from COVID-19, the SAO will make all feasible attempts to allow potential applicants to challenge the Jurisprudence Exam.

The Jurisprudence Examination is a closed book exam consisting of True or False and Multiple Choice questions. Applicants have one hour to complete the examination and a passing grade is 75%.

Applicants should be familiar with legislation pertaining to practicing optometry in Saskatchewan, including the following:

The SAO office must receive the $500 Jurisprudence Examination fee before you can challenge the exam. A notarized photo, copy of your passport (including your picture), or government-issued identification must be provided to the SAO office prior to or at the time of the examination.

Optometry Examining Board of Canada Announces Exam Dates
The Optometry Examining Board of Canada has announced that it has rescheduled its April exam dates for September. The written exams, postponed as a result of emergency measures taken during COVID-19, will be written in Hamilton and Montreal on Thursday, September 24.

The OSCE will be held September 26 and 27 at the David Braley Health Sciences Centre in Hamilton. Details about the exams were released June 5 in a letter from OEBC CEO Kim Allen.

  • Email
  • Phone number
  • Mailing address
  • Optometric program you are graduating from

Additional details will be supplied prior to the exam and orientation date. Please download and complete the Jurisprudence Exam Identification form and return with your payment.

SAO Orientation Details

All new SAO members are required to attend an orientation session following the Jurisprudence Exam. The orientation will review billing practices, scope of practice, office management, and other important optometric topics.
